Hobie Kayaking

We are rank beginners, we admit it… while we  toyed with the idea of getting a kayak in 2004 when we lived in Hampton, VA,  we never acted.  A couple of moves later found us in Fredericksburg VA, close to lakes, rivers, the Chesapeake Bay, and even the ocean is about 2 hours away.  So when an experienced kayaker friend mentioned the Hobie series of kayaks that you peddle not paddle, I became intrigued and then Debbie got interested.

Our Hobie Oasis Tandem Kayak

A month later we bought a Golden Papaya (yellow) colored Hobie Oasis tandem kayak.

We have been out numerous times in four different places.  Our first stop was a small lake at Curtis Park near our house with submerged tree stumps… we moved on and landed at Smith Lake on Quantico Marine Base. Nice large lake.  Our third trip was an aborted outing near Aqui Creek on the Potomac where we were somewhat defeated by low tide, winds, and bottom grass in the shallow water. Our 4th trip was to Leesylvania State Park and recently we went to the Occoquan.  These pages will chronicle some of our kayak outings.
